Night Sea Journey, 2015-ongoing

Little ship of the soul, what if neither God nor Leviathan exists? /

Would you still put to sea?

— Peter Sanger

The works that comprise Night Sea Journey are inventions of the darkroom, created using light, a piece of cardboard, and photo chemistry.  Darkness, light, and fluidity become potent metaphors for creation, travel, stasis, life, death, journey. Whale, underworld, liminality, threshold.

Each print is a unique 16” x 20” silver-gelatin photogram made on fibre-based paper, or photo-sensitized rag paper and toned in selenium.
